An Asheville outdoor favorite is welcoming more visitors

Richmond Hill Park in northwest Asheville has partially reopened after extensive storm-related damage, bringing hiking opportunities and disc golf back to an important neighborhood green space.

According to the City of Asheville’s park information reviewed October 16, 2026, some hiking trails are open during normal park hours, and the 18-hole disc golf course has fully reopened.

The improvements are encouraging for outdoor enthusiasts who have missed the park’s forested trails and recreation areas since Tropical Storm Helene.

What visitors can enjoy

The park features natural-surface paths used for hiking and biking, an 18-hole disc golf course, picnic facilities and wooded scenery just minutes from downtown Asheville.

Local partners including Pisgah Area SORBA and the Western North Carolina Disc Golf Association have supported trail and disc golf recovery work.

The park is located at 300 Richmond Hill Drive and lists regular hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Some areas are still hazardous

The reopening is partial, not a declaration that every trail or wooded area is safe. The City of Asheville warns that significant hazards remain and trail conditions have changed since the storm.

Visitors must follow temporary signs and fencing, stay on officially open routes and avoid storm-damaged or closed sections.

Trail runners, cyclists and families should allow extra time for changed conditions rather than assuming a familiar pre-storm route is unchanged.

A community recovery milestone

Richmond Hill Park has long offered residents a close-to-home place to walk, ride, play disc golf and spend time outside.

Each restored route and reopened recreational feature marks progress, but continued volunteer work and responsible visitor behavior are important as repairs continue.

Before leaving home, check the City of Asheville's Richmond Hill Park page for the latest access notices and restrictions.
