A downtown Asheville restaurant prepares to say goodbye
Limones, the Eagle Street restaurant known for its Mexican-Californian cooking and longstanding place in Asheville's dining scene, has announced it will close after service on November 14, 2026.
Chef Hugo Ramirez and co-owner Amy Cavanaugh announced the decision November 3, explaining that they are retiring from the restaurant industry after 22 years.
Limones opened in 2004 and became known for a menu shaped by the flavors of Mexico and the California cooking techniques Ramirez developed earlier in his career.
Over the years, the restaurant's dishes have included ceviche, chile rellenos, seasonal specialties and a distinctive margarita selection.
More than a restaurant
The restaurant's location in the historic J.A. Wilson Building on Eagle Street placed it in the heart of downtown Asheville's longtime restaurant and cultural district.
For regulars, Limones has been a destination for celebrations, date nights and visiting family members looking for an experience tied to Asheville's independent food culture.
Ramirez and Cavanaugh thanked employees, past and present, and encouraged guests to continue supporting locally owned restaurants.
What diners should know
Saturday, November 14, is the announced final service date. Reservations beyond that date are being canceled.
Guests hoping to visit before the closing should check availability directly with Limones, since remaining tables may be limited.
No successor restaurant or future use for the space has been confirmed as part of this announcement.
The impending closure marks the end of a 22-year chapter in Asheville dining, and a reminder of the people and independent businesses that shaped the city's food identity. |
