A new chapter for Biltmore Village

Ambleside Gallery is preparing to celebrate its Asheville home with a public grand opening Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 30 All Souls Crescent in historic Biltmore Village.

The event is free to attend, and no RSVP is required.

For the neighborhood, the opening adds a new cultural destination to a district still marked by the long recovery from Hurricane Helene.

Four decades of gallery history

Ambleside was founded in Manchester, England, in 1982 by Jackson Mayshark.

The gallery grew from representing British artists and serving private collectors into an established fine-art business exhibiting work from regional, national and international artists.

Its arrival in Asheville followed a pop-up show in Biltmore Village, where the building owner invited Mayshark to establish a permanent gallery.

The Asheville space showcases work by artists from Western North Carolina, other parts of the United States, England and France.

Art worth looking closely at

One room features ceramic sculptures by brothers Brad and Bryan Caviness, whose intricate architectural forms grew out of an experiment with pottery fragments after an accident in a kiln.

The collection reflects the gallery's emphasis on originality, craftsmanship and distinctive artistic voices.

What to expect at the opening

Visitors can meet participating artists, browse the galleries and enjoy refreshments and light music during the November 12 celebration.

The grand opening is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 30 All Souls Crescent, Asheville, and is open to everyone without an advance reservation.

For shoppers, art enthusiasts and neighbors interested in the changing business landscape of Biltmore Village, it offers an opportunity to welcome a new local destination.

Readers should check the gallery's announcements for any last-minute changes to the event.
