Asheville’s main Independence Day celebration is set for Saturday, July 4, bringing a full day of free activities, live music, vendors, and fireworks to the South Slope.

The Asheville Downtown Association says entertainment begins at noon, giving families and visitors a long window to enjoy the holiday downtown. The day’s lineup includes live music, Ultimate Air Dogs, local vendors, a car show, and other community activities.

The evening’s headliner, Empire Strikes Brass, is scheduled for 7 p.m., bringing Asheville’s own high-energy brass sound to the holiday celebration. Fireworks are planned for 9:30 p.m., making the South Slope the main downtown gathering spot for July 4.

For readers planning to attend, this is a good event to approach with a little preparation. Downtown will likely be busy, so allow extra time for parking, walking, food stops, and finding a good viewing spot before fireworks. Families may also want to bring water, sunscreen, ear protection for young children, and a flexible plan in case of heat or afternoon storms.

The South Slope location also gives attendees plenty of ways to make a full day of it, from grabbing food nearby to visiting local businesses before or after the scheduled activities. Since admission is free, it is one of the easiest holiday options for people who want a big community celebration without buying a ticket.

For Asheville residents and visitors, the July 4 South Slope celebration is the week’s biggest reader-service event: free admission, daytime activities, local vendors, live music, and fireworks in one downtown district.
